What is the secret to displaying your dragon collectables with pizazz? Do what successful merchants have always done. Create an interesting and eye catching display. Here are some tips you can try, they should create an eye catching display your friends and family will love.

Of course you could just buy a curio cabinet. But they cost a pretty penny don’t they. So, why not just take a couple of the elements used to make an expensive curio cabinet, and take advantage of them to highlight your dragon collectables.

1. Glass. Are your dragon collectables on a shelf? Think about using glass rather than wood. You could get a small glass display box to put one or two of your most treasured dragon figure into. This will put added weight to those pieces, while adding something that helps catch the eye.

2. Mirrors. This is a big part of any curio cabinet. It adds depth and helps the viewer to see the all your dragon glass and dragon sculpture without having to handle them. It will make a small collection look large. the added depth and different angles the mirrors create also catch the eye.

3. Lighting. If you don’t do anything else, do this. A good white light has been used by merchants to help sell things for a long time. I’m sure you have noticed how jewelry store display cases are well lit and how many have strong white lights shining down onto the counters. That’s what gives thing the sparkle. So why not shine some light on your dragon collectables, dragon figure, and dragon glass collections. You could get a couple small lamps, there are also some nice inexpensive track light kits if you have a larger collection. You want a nice crisp white light.

Here is a great site for display items to add that pizza to your collection.

Gothic serpent, medieval beast, or snake-like, dragon sculpture very often depicts a large bodied scaly creature. That is unless the dragon figure is being slain by a Saint or some other Hero. Then the dragon is most often depicted as a much smaller beast. Find any painting or sculpture of Saint George and the dragon. I don’t think dragons get much smaller. Good thing there was no SPCA or PETA back then. Thanks to all the Saints, Knights, and Heroes all trying to make a name for themselves, we at Dragon Collectibles feel confident in saying that all the land dwelling dragons were wiped out long ago.

That begs the question, are there any dragons left in the world? Most of the oldest dragon myths have the dragon figure as the master of water. If that is the case, I would have to re-think some of our modern day myth and legends. The most enduring one that comes to my mind is the legend of Loch Ness. While Nessie is the most famous lake monster, it is not the only one. A couple of the more famous would be Champ who lives in Lake Champlain and Ogopogo residing in Lake Okanagan. There are hundreds of lakes around the world sais to harbor monsters.

From the descriptions given of these so called monsters, I say rubbish. These are not monsters, but our missing dragons. I can understand why these remaining water dragons keep a pretty low profile. Mankind after all, did wipe out their land dwelling cousins.

It really is a shame that humans find it so much easier to wipe out a species that perhaps finds our domesticated live stock easy pickings, rather than the slightly more difficult choice of living in harmony with nature and all its diversity.

Just a reminder, Dragon Collectibles make great gifts, click on the ads and check out those sites. Shop early, shop smart.

In my quest for dragon myth and legend, Dragon Collectibles has looked at the creation myths of the indigenous people of Australia.

The Aboriginal creation myths tell of a Rainbow Serpent. The many re-telling of the myth make references calling this a dragon figure, the “Rainbow Dragon.” While I’m not convinced this is a dragon figure, the story is worth telling. You can make your own judgment.

The indigenous people of Australia believe the Rainbow Serpent or Rainbow Dragon figure is the source of all life. It plays a very important role in the spiritual beliefs of the Aboriginal people. The myth can be traced back as far as 6000 years. In rock art found throughout Australia and the oral narrations that still occur today.

It is believed to have made tracks through the land, creating the rivers, waterholes and other landscape features. It is believed to live deep within the waterholes. Also deep within the ocean, causing the waves as it moves. Holding emphasis on the preciousness of water to the cycle of life.

All the accounts I could find with the exception of one call this dragon figure a serpent. The one account that differed was a group of Australian archeologists who came to the conclusion the myths refer to an ancient gill fish. As we know, many a dragon figure are serpentine in appearance. Many other myths have a serpent spirit (with and without limbs) called dragon. I do like the sound of Rainbow Dragon. After all, a rainbow colored dragon glass art piece could be cool. Even better, an iridescent dragon glass piece from rainbow colored glass. Anyway, I’m off topic, you decide, dragon figure or serpent? Leave a comment here at Dragon Collectibles.

Show your friends and family you care about their success in school, career and life. Things being what they are right now in the world, there has never been a time where people need to balance the energy surrounding them. School is starting or has started for our kids, people are struggling to make ends meet, or even worried if they will have a job next week. Now is a great time to give a dragon figure or dragon sculpture as a gift.

The Chinese practice of feng shui has a couple of interesting dragon collectibles that make great gifts. Feng shiu is about using the universal energy that flows all around us, channeling it and finding a balance in our lives.

For the student returning to school or the business professional trying to eek out a living, the dragon figure is strong in Yang, an active masculine energy. The active energy of this dragon sculpture could help the student achieve better grades. While the masculine energy helps the busy professional create a take charge air about them. If the dragon is holding a pearl in its claw, you can add prosperity to the energy.

Another interesting feng shui figure is the dragon headed turtle. This figure represents longevity, prosperity and a new beginning. It’s often found sitting on a bed of coins. Also it will have one or two generations of babies on its back. As with the dragon figure holding a pearl or other gem, you use four different colored ribbons or coins placed in the mouth of the dragon headed turtle to enhance the energy properties. Making this a great gift for the student just starting school or the professional starting a new career.

There are some specific recommendations that a feng shui expert would tell you about. Things like how and where we should display the dragon sculpture. An example, don’t place the dragon in a bedroom. Want to show you care and are thinking about the well being of a friend or loved one. Give them the gift of dragon collectibles with hand written instructions on how to get the best energy out of the figure.

Dragon sculpture, dragon glass or dragon figure, lets look at what may be right for you as a person interested in beginning a collection. If your just beginning to collect dragons, I would suggest dragon figure - figurines and dragon glass as a good place to start. You can find plenty of inexpensive dragon collectibles to get yourself going.

Dragon Figure art can be made from a verity of materials. Hand painted enamel over metal. Plain metal such as pewter or bronze. The dragon figure could be ceramic or made from plaster. Painted and unpainted. The unpainted can be fun if you like to paint. As some of my other posts allude to, I like a verity of dragon collectables.

Dragon Glass is also a great type of material and create some unique dragon art. There is hand blown glass, molded blown glass, fused glass, and molded glass, to name a few. There are also plenty of inexpensive pieces to be found. These can be just as colorful and with the right lighting very dramatic.

Dragon Sculpture I find is a bit more expensive and may not be right for a beginner. I guess it depends on your budget. I think dragon sculpture pieces can be the most dramatic of all the art you will collect. Dragon sculpture can be found in all sizes, anything from a small dragon figure to a large fountain statue you can put in your garden. A Gothic garden theme would be so cool. Just a thought, no way my HOA would let me.

Some other tips for the beginner to collecting. Start slow, don’t go crazy and buy too many pieces at once. Take the time to enjoy the piece/s you have. Low on cash, try some yard sales and check out the links from this site. The internet is great for finding dragon collectibles in any price range. Lastly, I would stay away from the craft shows until you know what is a reasonable price should be. I love craft shows, but there are some people out there that will stiff you.

WHAT !! Make my own dragon collectables. I can’t make my own dragon figure, I don’t know how to pour molten pewter or cast plaster. I can’t make my own dragon glass, I have no idea how to slag or pull molten glass. I can’t make a dragon sculpture, (this would safer than working with molten materials) I don’t know how to carve to stone. With the right skills and costly equipment, you can.

I found a great way you can make your own dragon figure to add to your collection. And the best thing, you won’t burn your house down doing it. Or have to vacuum those nasty rock chips out of your carpet. I was web surfing the other day, looking for more dragon collectibles. And I came across another fascinating piece of dragon figure history. I found some Origami dragons. That got me thinking about dragons and history.

The art of origami has been around for hundreds of years. I suspect it started, as most things did in ancient times, out of a need by the lower class for a representation of a dragon figure to pay respect to the deity. Or it could have started by a peddler to be sold at festivals. No matter who or why origami got started, it is a relaxing hobby many people do today. The photos on this page show some great dragon figure origami. As I said, “Make your own Dragon Collectibles“ no fire, glass, pewter, dusty plaster or huge stones required. Just paper, check this out! Not Origami, but a pretty cool hand made Dragon
